ANDREW MALONE
Residing and working in Whitstable, Kent, Andrew Malone has firmly established a prominent presence in the art world by showcasing his work at prestigious venues such as The London Art Book Fair, the ICA, and the Whitechapel Gallery. His exhibitions have garnered global attention, with displays in renowned locations like Boekie Woekie in Amsterdam, Doverodde Book Arts Festival in Denmark, among others. Malone's artistic contributions can also be seen in the Tate Britain collection and various Artists Book collections.
Recently, Malone's artistic focus has taken a new direction, incorporating elements from Observer's and Ladybird books, postage stamps, and cigarette cards. Through intricate cutting and sculpting techniques, he transforms two-dimensional illustrations into distinct entities, encouraging viewers to interact with them as dynamic flip-books or static objects. Furthermore, Malone's profound connection with the natural world, stemming from his prior role as an RSPB warden, influences his creative process. His artworks blend modified map and book components, found materials like feathers and pressed flowers, along with tangible items such as postage stamps and cigarette cards.
In addition to his artistic endeavors, Malone has undertaken notable commissions, including installations at The Grand Scotland Yard Hotel and designing a book cover for John Berger's novel 'Ein Geschenk für Rosa.' With a background in sculpture from esteemed institutions such as Central St Martins, Canterbury College of Art, and Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, he has shared his expertise as a sculpture instructor at Wimbledon School of Art and in Florence. Currently holding the position of Programme Director and Associate Head of School at The University for the Creative Arts, Malone continues to shape and motivate the upcoming generation of artists.
